Not far from Beaumaris, today’s MCM marvel is in the suburb of Cheltenham, Victoria.
Cheltenham is probably now most famous for Southland Shopping Centre (which was once a mid-century marvel in its own right and stories are told of its amazing roof-top garden….. I must investigate and write more of that in the future) but it is also home to a wide range of architectural styles from throughout the 1900s (and 2000s).
This home is not far from Southland and is in an area that would have developed in the 1950s. A simple front yard with white great feature beds of pebbles and rocks leads to a low profile carport and entry.
This home looks to have been kept in amazing condition and has probably been lived in by the same family using the same original furniture!
The glass doors between rooms are fantastic and the furniture would be the feature in any contemporary high-end showroom!
My love affair with MCM kitchens continues! That cabinetry and floor are amazing!
Large windows open the living areas out into the garden and bring in so much natural light.
Some might say dated, but I love it!
The rear garden wraps around the side of the home, featuring a small area of natural stone ‘crazy’ paving and a large lawn area with fruit trees. The icon of the Australian backyard, the Hill’s Hoist, still stands proud and practical!
Another great house with so much to offer a lucky buyer!
